Bitch in line for falafel:
I ain’t your friend. Don’t ask me if Wendy’s is open and then get upset when I say “idk google it”. Like, you ass. I don’t feel like being friendly to idiots.

The Parisian diet:
For breakfast: • Nothing. I wake up early enough as it is (6:30) to get to work on time, and that leaves no time for making or buying breakfast. Mid-morning: • A cup of tea. Two, if I’m feeling hungry. Lunch: • Bavette frites— pretty much a hunk of beef and fries. • Celeri remoulade— kinda like cole slaw, but nicer. • crème brulée for dessert— half the ramekin,...

Katy: (to me, in English) I want to have a tea party.
Me: Yes! let's do it!
Katy: (to interns, in French) We're having a tea party. Do you guys want to come?
Them: ... We're celebrating tea?

So, um, what do I do?
I went clubbing on Thursday and I met a guy, except I totally don’t remember what he looks like except he’s about my height and his name is Mohammed. He told me I was cute and asked for my number and he took my phone and called his from it, and today he asked me out… I don’t know if I should say yes because I don’t remember what he looks like so I have no idea if...

The work environment in France
After a week at work, I must say I quite love how the French do it here and I am seriously considering finding a job here (or maybe another internship) after I graduate. (I should note, though, that some things might only apply to my line of work and not the French work ethic as a whole.) The French workspace seems to be much more social than in the States. While on the other side of the...

Kusmi Tea  →
If you’re ever in France, promise me you will check this out— I just drank the most lovely violet-infused tea, and I had never heard of something remotely similar.

Where's the hot guys?!
Last night, I met up with Katy, Karine, this other girl Zala (I hope I’ve spelled it right) and two of her friends for drinks. It didn’t end up being one of those amazing nights, but it was fun in the sense that I was in good company, and wandering around the Quartier Latin trying to find a bar beats staying at home in bed. We went to some “Irish” pub… it looked...

Monoprixland.
Today I met up with my new friend Katy for lunch at her place. She made us tartines, which is French for toast with shit on top. It was a good lunch, though, and after that she offered to take me to Monoprix, a supermarket. We walked to Montparnasse, where there is a HUGE Monoprix. I bought some cookware and a lot of food. I was very, very surprised with the quality of the food at the...

The end of my first week.
Things are getting way easier as the days go on. The prospect of getting lost doesn’t make me as anxious anymore, I’m trying to practice my French a bit more, I’m understanding more of it, and I’m meeting new people. The fellow interns, French and foreign, are extremely friendly to me. Yesterday, one of them (an American girl, Katy) saw me trying to figure out which train...

Adventures in Forum des Halles
So remember how yesterday I tried to get my phone and couldn’t find the store? Turns out that the underground train stations here are like cities (no joke, fucking huge) and I went out the wrong way. Anyway, today I tried again, better informed after asking people at work. When I got to the train station to begin my journey to the mall (Forum des Halles), I was trying to figure out which was...

I need to go to sleep, but wanted to get an update...
I just came back from this bar I went to with the two nice girls I met, plus a Parisian friend of theirs. She’s my age and very chic, and she is taking us out soon and she offered to show me the good shopping. Dude, two days and I already know three people? I think I’m making progress. I’ll write more when I’m not so beat!

In which I magically don't get lost in the train.
Today was my first day of work. I had to take a 1 hour long train ride, switching lines once. The train is weird and when it’s crowded it smells like sweaty armpits. The weird thing about work today was seeing just how much more developed the French are when it comes to dealing with people. Everyone who came into the office went around saying hello to each of the maybe 10 people in the...

I made plans to hang out with two really nice...
I’m really happy I stumbled upon some cool people so quickly. I think I wrote about them earlier; these girls helped me figure out the internet. One of them, the Puerto Rican, just came by and we had a nice chat, and she agreed to come out tomorrow and help me figure out how to buy a phone, and then we’ll get dinner with her Canadian friend. She says she’s excited to go out...

Oh, those Parisian guys I'd heard about...
So I heard cat-calling was big in Paris, but I didn’t realize how big until three guys followed me and the other American girl for like 10 minutes whistling at us. Were I in the States, I would have turned around and told them to fuck off, but I don’t know how to say “Fuck off” in French. I was seriously creeped out frealsies. I feel like I’m going to get raped by a...

Just got to Paris, some quick thoughts:
• The airport sucks balls and taint. So inefficient. There are no signs anywhere and I had to guess where my luggage would be. • My dorm is weird. I guess it’s not what I’m used to. The halls are very dark, the girl at desk speaks no English at all and doesn’t get that my French blows and can she please speak slowly? • My room is tiny, but at least I have my own bathroom....
